Building something physical when you have no business doing it

I was twenty, had never manufactured anything, and redesigned a device that had gone essentially unchanged for five thousand years. Thirteen months later I was showing it to the President. This is what that actually took, including the manufacturer who quoted us for one crutch instead of a pair and nearly ended the company.

What happens after the company ends

Most founder talks stop at the raise or the win. This one covers the other part: leaving, winding down, and watching your patents get sold with your name still on them. It is not a redemption arc and it does not have a tidy ending.

Why the true record of anything decays

Every domain my companies ran on is gone. A gambling site occupies one of them. My own press history survived in a single archive snapshot. This is about what that means now that a paragraph generated on demand is how most people will meet you, and why maintenance beats volume.
